What the Windows build supports
Windows gives an app the deepest access of the four platforms, so this build has everything. Nothing on the list is missing here.
| Feature | On Windows | What that means here |
|---|---|---|
| Kill switch | On Windows Supported | What that means here System-level, via the Windows Filtering Platform. Survives the app crashing. |
| Split tunneling | On Windows Supported | What that means here Per-application. Choose which programs bypass the tunnel, by executable. |
| Auto-connect | On Windows Supported | What that means here Fires when you join any network not on your trusted list. |
| Always-on | On Windows Supported | What that means here Runs as a Windows service, so the tunnel is up before you sign in. |
| Start with Windows | On Windows Supported | What that means here On by default. Can be turned off in Settings › Startup. |
| Multi-hop | On Windows Supported | What that means here Route through two servers in different countries. |
| Protocols | On Windows Supported | What that means here WireGuard and OpenVPN (UDP and TCP). |
| Custom DNS | On Windows Supported | What that means here Set your own resolvers, with DNS leak protection always on. |
| LAN access | On Windows Supported | What that means here Optional. Keep printers and network drives reachable while connected. |
| System tray control | On Windows Supported | What that means here Connect, disconnect and switch server without opening the window. |
The kill switch is enforced by the Windows Filtering Platform at the network layer, not by the app watching itself. If the CopVPN process is killed, traffic still stops.

If SmartScreen appears, choose More info — the publisher should read CopVPN, Inc. If it reads anything else, stop and re-download from copvpn.com.

Setup help for Windows
The problems people actually hit on this platform.
-
SmartScreen says the publisher is unknown
Almost always means the download did not come from copvpn.com. Delete it and download it again from copvpn.com.
-
Setting up split tunneling per app
Which executables to exclude, and why banking apps are the usual reason to use it.
-
The app will not start after an update
Resetting the network driver fixes this in nearly every case.
-
Uninstalling cleanly
Removing the app and the network driver together, so nothing is left behind.
[ 05 / FAQ ]
Windows questions
Why does Windows warn me about the installer?
It should not. The .exe is code-signed, so SmartScreen shows CopVPN, Inc. as the publisher. If you see an unknown-publisher warning, the file did not come from us — delete it and download again from copvpn.com.
Does it slow down startup?
The service starts with Windows and adds roughly a second to boot. If that matters, turn off Start with Windows in Settings › Startup; you then connect manually. Leaving it on is what makes always-on protection possible, so we recommend keeping it.
Can I choose which apps use the VPN?
Yes. Split tunneling on Windows works per executable — add a program to the exclusion list and its traffic goes out on your normal connection while everything else stays in the tunnel. The common use is a banking app or a work tool that refuses connections from a VPN address.
Does it work on Windows on ARM?
Yes. The same installer covers x64 and ARM64 and picks the right build automatically. 32-bit Windows is not supported and has not been since version 3.0.
What happens if the VPN drops?
The kill switch blocks all traffic until the tunnel is back. It is enforced at the Windows Filtering Platform level rather than by the app, so it holds even if the CopVPN process is terminated. It is on by default and can be turned off in Settings › Security.
How do I remove it completely?
Uninstall from Settings › Apps as normal. That removes the app and the network driver together. If you had turned the kill switch on and the uninstall was interrupted, contact support and they will help you clear the leftover filtering rules.
