[ 04 / Free VPNs ] Eight differences

Why not a free VPN?

A free service still has costs. If you are not paying for it, the usual way it pays for itself is your data.

[ 06 / Questions ] Installing and signing in

Download questions

Installing, signing in and moving between devices. Billing is on the pricing page.

Answer 01 of 09

Which version should I download?

The panel at the top of this page detects what you are using and offers the matching installer. If you are downloading for a different machine, every platform is listed in the Downloads section with its own version, size and requirements.

Answer 02 of 09

Do I need an account before I install?

You can install the app first, but you cannot connect without an account. Most people buy a plan, then install. If you already have a plan, sign in with the same email and password you use for My Account.

Answer 03 of 09

Is the Windows installer signed?

Yes. The .exe is code-signed, so Windows shows CopVPN, Inc. as the publisher rather than an unknown one. The macOS build is notarized by Apple. If your download warns about an unidentified developer, you have not got it from this page.

Answer 04 of 09

How do I know I have the current version?

The app checks on launch and tells you on the dashboard. The current version number is printed on every card in the Downloads section so you can compare before installing.

Answer 05 of 09

Can I install it on more than one device?

Up to 20 devices can be signed in to one account, and up to 5 of them can be connected to the VPN at the same time. Only devices you have signed in on in the last 30 days count toward the 20. If a sixth device tries to connect, the app tells you the limit has been reached and nobody already connected is cut off. To sign in on another device once 20 are in use, remove one from your account first.

Answer 06 of 09

What is the difference between the app and the browser extension?

The app protects everything on the device. The extension protects only the browser it is installed in, which is useful on a shared or work computer where you cannot install software. If you can install the app, install the app.

Answer 07 of 09

How do I get it on my TV?

Install CopVPN from Google Play on your Android TV. It is the same Play listing as the phone app, with its own TV interface, and it needs Android 7.0 or later. On a TV that cannot install apps, connect through a router instead.

Answer 08 of 09

Does it work on Linux?

There is no dedicated Linux app yet. You can connect using WireGuard or OpenVPN configuration files, which support can send you. Everything else about your account works the same.

Answer 09 of 09

The download will not start. What now?

Some corporate and school networks block VPN installers. Try a different network, or a phone on mobile data. If it still fails, contact support and they will send you a direct link.
